  • Screening for Dehydration

We found this article Vitamin Research News, by Mark Schauss.

So what is the best way to test for dehydration?  Some doctors will do a blood test and look for elevations in the red blood cell count, hematocrit, hemoglobin and albumin or high specific gravity in one's urine (measuring urine concentration), but that is impractical when trying to determine daily hydration levels.  There is a simple way to screen for daily dehydration that can be done in a doctor's office and people with normal blood pressure also can be trained to do it at home.

    • In a seated position, the individual should place his or her right hand plam down on their right leg.
    • Note the veins on the back of the hand.  They should be fluffy and sticking out.  If they are not, the person is severely dehydtrated.
    • The individual should slowly raise his or her hand while looking at the veins on the back of their hand.
    • If the veins diappear before the person reaches his or her chin, they are dehydrated.
    • If the veins continue to stay puffy after the hand is over the head, this is a sign of hypertension, which may not  correspond to blood pressure.

Since some individuals have thinner or thicker skin, while others have low pressure individualizing the above process to each person is essential for a functional screening tool like this.  For people showing signs of dehydration, adding a tablespoon of Peltier Electrolytes to 8 ounces of water should work.  The recommended dosage of Peltier Electrolytes is 1/2 ounce or 1 tablespoon per 8 ounces three times daily.

    Chiropractic Care

Many people are aware spending excessive time on a computer can lead to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Lateral Epicondylitis (commonly known as Tennis Elbow), but this is also true for the intricate movements required to play a musical instrument. Whether professionally or recreationally many musicians spend hours each day performing the same repetitive movements with their hands. This can lead to the same symptoms associated with operating a keyboard and mouse all day. Many musicians don’t know that the aches and pains they experience could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Lateral Epicondylitis, and in many cases those symptoms can be treated with regular Chiropractic care. Scott, a long time patient, recently explained that for years, he had been dealing with severe pain in his wrists after playing his guitar. After performing a show, he would ice them for hours and at times the pain was so intense he was unable to sleep. After 2 months of regular adjustments, and following a prescribed regimen of Ultrasound and exercise therapy, we are proud to announce that Scott is virtually pain-free!

Thanks to all who came  to our party last week!  it was great fun and we had two patients win massages and others received biofreeze and other products.  We introduced 10 new people to chiropractic.    If you do become our patient we will check your family for subluxations in the first week for free.  I've been getting adjusted alot more lately and  I feel better than I have in years.  As a doctor ,we forget how important  it is to do what the doctor orders.  i want to thank Dr. Hart Peterson for helping me nutritionally for the last several yrs.  He has literally saved my life and helped me with food poisoning.  I thought I was going to have to have gallbladder surgery and he kept me from that also.  His number is 338-4777 and he is a naturalpath.

I also want to thank Dr. Wendee Whitehead for treating me with a  technique which specializes in the specific correction of the first vertebra in the neck.  I feel so balanced.  There are so many great techniques in chiropractic and they are all different so try several and see what works for you!

Thank you for participating in our Haiti relief fund raiser. Due to your gracious donations we were able to send the orphanage close to $1000.00. It was a fun day for all. Over thirty people received adjustments. Abby, our therapist did lots of therapy. Her sister has adopted 6 children from the orphanage and was waiting for a brother and sister's papers to come through so she could bring them home. Soon after our event she heard the good news that her children were on a plane to the United States. Many adoptions have been expedited since there is no longer a place for the children to live. They moved them temporarily to a monastery but many were sleeping outside. We hope to hold more events in the future to help.

    Chiropractic Care

Many patients with cancer and mesothelioma turn to chiropractic care in order to help control pain, relieve headaches and reduce tension and stress. The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics published two studies that examined cases of patients fighting cancer.  A 57 year old man diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer was able to reduce the amount of medication needed  following chiropractic care and he experienced considerable pain relief.  A 54 year old man diagnosed with lung cancer( a cancer often related to asbestos exposure) began seeing a chiropractor after surgery because he was unable to relieve pain through conventional means.  He experienced pain relief immediately after beginning chiropractic care and ceased using pain medication after two visits.  The journal noted,"These clinical examples offer two specific instances of how chiropractic care may improve the quality of the cancer patient's life."
